Fallen Hero Esmail Shafiei, an honorable man, a kind father, a native of Gilan and a resident of Rasht, lost his life at the age of 57 while helping his fellow human beings. He was married with three children and had his roots in the village of Aqa Seyyed Yaqub, in Shaft County, Gilan Province. Esmail was known for his good reputation, sense of responsibility, and altruistic spirit, having dedicated his life to his family, work, and helping others. During the popular protests in Rasht in January 2026 (Dey 1404), when he stepped forward to help one of the wounded, he was targeted by direct fire from the repressive forces of the Islamic Republic. He had stepped forward not to clash, but to save another human life; an act that spoke of his great and humanitarian spirit. Nonetheless, at that very moment, he was targeted by bullets and severely wounded. Various accounts have been told about the hours following his transfer to the hospital. Some unofficial sources have said that even after his transfer, he endured bitter and distressing conditions, and reports have even emerged speaking of him being shot again in the hospital (a coup de grâce).
