Some sorrows cannot be measured by words; a grief that permeates the walls of a home and lingers for years in the silence of its rooms. That day, on a street in Mashhad, two girls still did not know that a few seconds later, their world would be torn asunder forever. Hamideh Salarzadeh, 42 years old and mother of two daughters, took her last steps in life on 8 January 2026 (18 Dey) in Mashhad, during days when the streets of Iran were gasping for breath under the shadow of protest and repression. That day, near the Elahieh police station, she stood beside her 9- and 19-year-old daughters. But a live round, fired directly at her head, demolished all the dreams of that family in an instant. The woman who for years had been the sanctuary for her children's weariness, worries, and dreams, fell to the ground beside the dearest people in her life. The bullet brought down the pillar of support whose presence gave meaning to their home. From that moment, childhood, youth, and motherhood, all three simultaneously, were scarred.
