He was a 28-year-old Gilaki man, born in the village of Shaft and residing in Rasht. In many sources, his name is mentioned as "Maziar Samimi", which according to information written on the family's social media pages, is incorrect and his surname is written as "Samiei" in all of them. On the evening of January 8, 2026, following Reza Pahlavi's call, he was involved in a verbal altercation with an armed officer while inside his personal vehicle, among the protesting people in the vicinity of Razi Square in Rasht. It is said that he disobeyed the officer's order to return and, due to this resistance, was immediately killed by a direct shot to the forehead with a live round.
