Fallen Hero Hossein Mohebbipour; A Baluch Laborer from Bashagard to Kish

Hossein Mohebpour (Mahmoudi) was a 26-year-old Baluch worker from the impoverished village of Dastgerd-e Sureg in the Gowharan district of Bashagard County. The son of Keydi and the primary breadwinner for his family, he had migrated to Kish Island in search of work to support his family due to the profound economic deprivation, severe poverty, and lack of employment opportunities in the Bashagard region, finding employment at the island's Marjan Pier. On the evening of Friday, 9 January 2026 (19 Dey 1404), as nationwide protests flared around the area surrounding Kish's Marjan Pier, Hossein was struck in the chest by live ammunition fired directly by security forces, dying before he could reach a medical facility. Following his formal identification, Hossein Mohebpour's name was recorded as one of the Baluch victims killed during that wave of protests. In the wake of this tragedy, security agencies in Kish withheld Hossein Mohebpour's body for nine days, conditioning its release on his family signing a written pledge to maintain absolute media silence, refrain from speaking with the press, and abstain from organizing any protest gatherings. His body was finally transferred to his hometown on 18 January 2026 (28 Dey 1404) and laid to rest under intense security surveillance. Even after the burial, his family remained under relentless pressure.
