Mahmoud Mousavi, a thirty-year-old electrical engineer and resident of Qeshm Island, was shot from behind and lost his life on 8 January 2026 (18 Dey 1404) during the suppression of popular protests in the city. Mahmoud was an ordinary citizen with a simple life. He loved mountaineering, knew the island's rugged and pristine paths well, and sometimes walked for hours in the heart of nature. He ran a shop in Qeshm that was frequented by people from all walks of life. By friends and acquaintances, he was known as a kind, humanitarian, and animal-loving person, especially fond of cats. He was single and had a bright future ahead of him; he harbored plans for expanding his business, traveling to other parts of the country, and perhaps one day building a small family. Local witnesses say that on 8 January 2026 (18 Dey 1404), without being armed or posing a threat to anyone, he was directly shot from behind. His close friend had written in a note: "My heart went with Mahmoud too. He taught me true love and what it means to be human; he taught me to fly. He was an angel without wings on earth."
