Asymmetric Warfare and Strategic Ambiguity: Assessing the 2026 U.S. and Israel Conflict with Iran

The 2026 military confrontation between the United States, Israel, and the Islamic Republic of Iran presents a profound question in contemporary conflict studies. The core question is whether a state that has been devastated conventionally can still achieve its strategic objectives. This analysis argues that while Iran has suffered catastrophic conventional losses, its deliberate reliance on asymmetric deterrence, massive missile stockpiles, and proxy warfare means that declaring a clean victory for the coalition is analytically flawed.
